Amman

As old as history, Amman is a magical mix of the past with the best of the present. Known as Philadelphia in Roman times, this is the Levant’s City Of the Seven Hills. Today Amman has developed to take in 19 hills and is a bustling commercial and administrative center.

Amman’s crowning glory is the Citadel, a hill with the Temple of Hercules ruins and museum with exhibits dating back to the region’s earliest settlements. At the foot of the Citadel is Amman’s famous Amphitheatre.

Just an hour’s drive north lies the ruined city of Jerash – The Pompeii of the East - and the region’s most important archaelological site, Pella, where excavations continue to unearth evidence of civilization dating back 10.000 years. Also within an hour’s drive are Madaba, which has the earliest surviving map of the Holy Land, Mount Nebo and the Dead Sea.
